The Oak Ridge Youth Association is committed to raising $75,000 for the installation of a new gym floor at Oak Ridge Elementary School

ORYA is fortunate to have a strong partnership with Guilford County Schools (GCS) and Oak Ridge Elementary School (ORES).  Our non-profit youth program uses ORES fields for outdoor sports practices including football, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, and softball. The partnership also allows the program to use the ORES gym, which is the primary reason we are able to provide a youth basketball program for our local kids.  We would not be able to offer this basketball program for more thann 300 boys and girls if the school gym was not avaialble for weeknight practices and Saturday games.  Last season, ORYA was proud to invest in safer, adjustable backboards as well as new scoring equipment, but the gym has a much more important need.  The gym floor has become worn over the years, making for a pretty slippery surface.  Most players walking into that gym know they are in for a slippery game.  Fortunately, at a meeting back in September between ORYA and GCS leadership, it was agreed GCS would install a new gymnasium floor if ORYA could raise the funds to cover the expense.

The ORYA Board was looking for a primary focus for our fundraising efforts and this was the perfect opportunity.  Stay tuned for more info on how you can help us reach our fundraising goal and improve our offerings for local yout!
