The number 1 has been officially retired by the Oak Ridge Colts in honor of those that have
helped make our program a success. The following have awarded an official Oak Ridge Colt #1
retired jersey;
2001—Oak Ridge Elementary School—For providing the facilities used by the ORYA and
for all the children at ORES that participate in our program.
2001—The Town of Oak Ridge—For helping secure a Parks and Recreation Grant through
the NFL that helped get the program started and for continued support through the years by
the Town Council.
2002—Kenny Morris—One of the founding members of the ORYA football program and
helped with equipment management duties.
2003—John Shumate—One of the original six head coaches of the Colts who worked with
older players during the first few years when the players had little experience, but helped them
improve each season.
2004—Mitch Glover—During his tenure as ORYA President he served as a head coach for
two seasons, an assistant for one season, and assisted with program management when we
moved to the NWPWMFL.
2006 - Corey Gearheardt - Contributed to the Colts in many ways since the program started in 2001 including coaching, sponsoring and volunteer work. When the program was first started Corey made sure the program had a tackling sled and blocking sled so that the kids could be taught proper fundamentals. Corey has coached defense on many of the Colts teams since 2001. Corey's business Gearheardt Aviation Services has been the Official Sponsor of the Oak Ridge Colts Football since 2001.
2006 - Steve Powell - Started with the Colts during the first season in 2001 and served as an assistant as well as head coach within the organization during his tenure. He also served as the programs season equipment manager for a couple of years. Throughout the years Steve always took on difficult jobs for the Colts and saw them through. Steve has been a patient and hard working coach that has helped improve players fundamentally.
